Beginners Guide to Film and Television performing

Help and advice for actors, models, dancers and singers new to the Film and Television industry in Australia and New Zealand.

Finishing up

Although it can be a huge amount of fun, we are, essentially working in show BUSINESS. And a business it is. Even if you’re not working right now, you can help yourself. Be sure to:

  • Keep your photos up to date

  • Keep in touch with your agent – gentle persistence is the key

  • Do courses to improve your skills. They might be in the discipline you’ve already chosen or they might be something a little different to make you more valuable. Eg – a voice course, a stunt fighting course, a presenters course. These are also great reasons to call your agent so they can be added to your CV. Agents are always pleased to see their talent doing more for themselves.

  • Keep fit and healthy – it helps boost your confidence and a positive attitude

  • Do some amateur work – it adds to your experience to your CV.

  • Find a good networking group to keep up with what’s going on in the industry. Being an actor can be a very isolating experience!

Good luck!
