All about Jazz' USA : Online Guide

With 12 CD releases under her belt (La Brava Records) and over 20 years of experience, Janet Seidel has attained the kind of status and reputation for quality most performers around the world only dream about. She is one of the best jazz musicians Australia has ever produced.

With a fan base of thousands her concerts are usually sold out soon after tickets go on sale. She performs regularly in festivals around Australia, Asia and the United States with her quartet of superb musicians or can be seen in comfortable cabaret houses and private functions as a trio for more exclusive audiences.

Her communication with her audience is filled with delightfully funny anecdotes and a sense of humour to make you feel like going up for a chat after the show. No egotistical barrier is set to put you off.

'Australian vocalist/pianist Janet Seidel is a true blue jazz baby.
She's been compared to everyone from Doris Day to Peggy lee
and it's definitely fair to say that her understanding
of the classics is equal to that of those legendary greats.

She manages the hat trick of sounding flirtatious, confident
and even wryly humorous, lending an extra depth to the songs.'
Scott Barker in Tuscon Lifesyle magazine USA

Doris and Me
Janet Seidel presents her delightful celebration of the life and songs of Doris Day.
In her long film career Doris Day made 39 movies, 18 of which were musicals. Yet it is as a singer that she is most remembered. She recorded 650 songs many of which became popular in the standard repertoire. Songs like 'Secret love', 'Pillow talk' 'Somebody loves me' and 'Que sera sera' are forever associated with her sunny feel good delivery and pleasant sounding voice. It is from this huge repertoire that Janet Seidel has devised a performance celebrating the life and songs of Doris Day.

Janet has often been vocally compared to Doris Day and her show, funny and poignant at times, is presented with the superb arrangements which are very much the hallmark of Janet Seidel.

Dear Blossom

Janet's trio tribute to icon Blossom Dearie, launched in June 2004, has already enjoyed sell out seasons at National Press Club, Canberra; Adelaide Festival Theatre and Woodfire Cabaret in Sydney.

'Someone should send Janet Seidel flowers for her delicate and engaging tribute to a truly eccentric music talent, the ageless Blossom Dearie. She takes a representative sample from her catalogue and sings with a touch of the breathy finesse that characterises a Dearie song. Seidel is a very fine singer in a very cool way with a light touch on the keys.'
- Review from the Adelaide Advertiser

The Art of Lounge
A superb collection of Jazz Lounge songs to satisfy any Jazz lovers and can be a delightful introduction for those not so savvy with the genre.  From her 3 award winning and best selling Art of Lounge CD's this show features a collection of the hit songs.

'Australia's Queen of Lounge' - Julia Lester from ABC Classic Drive
'Nothing can hide the subtle artistry Janet and her judiciously chosen coterie of jazz musicians bring to jazz standards.' - Drum media

'In the second half the trio eases through a pile of audience requests (written on paper slips) from Crazy to Sondheim's Send In The Clowns and Jobim's One Note Samba. It was fun to watch them improvising arrangements as they went, even decorating Crazy with backing vocals.'
- John Shand, Sydney Morning Herald

Chansons des Paris
From her popular CD Comme Ci Comme Ca this show features Janet's own arrangements and interpretations of the most popular songs by French Artists including Piaf, Aznavour, Montand, Trenet, Legrand and many more. For this show, the trio is joined by piano accordion maestro Kim Till.

'De-Lovely'
Featuring the very best of Cole Porter, Janet and her band perform memorable favourites like Begin the Beguine, I Get a Kick Out of You, Night and Day, Love For Sale and many more.

'It is simply more of the exquisite singing ...
as if to validate her credentials as Australia's latter day Doris Day.'
Alan Bargebuhr,
Cadence Magazine USA

'The Sydney-based singer and pianist is without question the most successful jazz influenced cabaret performer in Australia today.'
Barry Ralph, Gold Coast Weekender

'Her style is distinctive. Her piano has a sense of rhythm and is tasteful. Her vocal is clear and natural which makes you feel like basking in a warm sunny place.

Her speaking tone and singing voice sound the same: all of these aspects have helped create her natural and honest vocal impression '
Keiko Takayama, Jazz World (Japan)

'Exceptionally gifted... It is a measure of Janet's skill, sincerity and admiration that during her performance it is to her own interpretations of these wonderful songs that all attention is drawn.'
Bruce Crowther, Jazz Journal International

'The dusky sensuality blending innocence and desire, the perfect phrasing, the odd devilish kick, and of course the magical interplay between vocalist and ensemble.
As always with Seidel's recordings, 'Don't smoke in bed' is also highlighted by a true live sensibility, which is a rare occurrence in contemporary music recordings, and an intimacy which can transport you right into the front row of the performance.
Paul Turner of SX Magazine Sydney

'I had heard so much about this delightful jazz star
from Australia, but I was still not prepared for this
awesome performance. I have never been so thrilled
by a performer. This lady is amazing - such pure clean vocals!
